Silver singing bird box

A silver singing bird box,

German,

Circa 1930,

Going barrel movement,

The classic German silver bird box model...

When wound and start/stop pull actuated, the bird appears through pierced leaf swag decorated gilt grille, moving metal beak, wings and body from side-to-side to continuous  synchronised birdsong.

The bird with predominant tone of green feathered plumage, delicate red and blue banding to front, the pressed lid featuring top relief in negative to the inside, in fantastic classic silver case with main lid baring study of shepherd with sheep and trees, front and sides with putti among scrolls and rococo freezes, plain polished underside.

4.1/4in. wide, 2.5/8in. deep, 1.3/4in. high - (10.8 x 6.7 x 4.5cm)

Point of interest -

These classic German cases are always busy in detail and a real showstopper if displayed on its own in a clear location.  The detail is achived by part casting the most deepest of areas, then tooling out to get that crispness you see close-hand.  Not a good diea to over polish these as the polish product fills in all the good detail in the design.  Here, we have removed that build-up to reveal this box at its best.
